I installed Office 2000 on my desktop and laptop computers in 2000. This year I decided to upgrade to Word 2007 and purchased the Student/Home version. I installed it on my desktop with no problems, but when I tried to install it on my laptop, I got a message saying it couldn't determine the origin of Office 2000. All the Word 2007 files were deleted. What can I do to solve this problem?

Consider it is possible your word documents could still be on you computer. Do a search on your hard disk drive for

 *.doc 

just to be sure. If the search shows your files, then be sure to back-up all those files. If not, post back and I can suggest a few undelete/recover file applications to consider.

Thanks for getting back to me. I guess I wasn't clear as to what happened. I was unable to install Word 2007 on my laptop. All the files from the Word 2007 CD were installed, and then the "unable to establish origin of Office 2000" message appeared. At that point, it proceeded to uninstall Word 2007. This didn't happen when I installed Word 2007 on my desktop computer, and both computers have the same Office 2000 on them. What is looking for that it found on one computer and not on the other?

go to support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/290301 to download and run the windows installer cleanup use it tto clean out a few hidden office items it will work fine.
